Cabinetry Selection for any Kitchen or Bath Remodel, begins with selecting the door style and finish for your cabinetry. This is definitely the first aesthetically pleasing thing that you see when you walk into your kitchen or bathroom. Because its a big part of the space, its important that it all works with the rest of the room. In a bathroom, the cabinetry feels more like a piece of furniture, here its a smaller piece of the whole, but its an opportunity to add another texture to the room. I am going to share some steps with you that might help when you are starting out with your cabinetry selection. This is where your remodel project will begin. Cabinets usually have a longer order time than any other material in your project so this is why we start clients with the cabinet selection process first.

Writing this blog was not easy. There are so many subjects within a kitchen remodel, that it was hard to stick to just one. Then there are these questions, Does it sound professional enough? Is it entertaining enough? Do I sound too preachy? Am I overwhelming the reader with too much information? Until I took the time to read other blogs written by experienced bloggers, I didn’t know where to start mine or how it should sound. I was kind of paralyzed and probably rewrote this blog 3 or 4 times. I know I am rambling about things unrelated to a kitchen remodel, but not really. You see I didn’t know where to start this blogging process, and that is the same feeling most people have when they are going into the process of remodeling their kitchen.

Fun Facts about Counter Tops: Counter tops, or solid surfaces, (which they are sometimes referred to) are one of the most important parts of any kitchen or bathroom remodel. Why? Well, they cover your cabinets, they provide a working surface for you in the space, and they take up a lot of the space visually, so it’s nice if they are attractive as well as functional. Your counter tops and cabinets are usually the first selections made in a kitchen and bath remodel. They make the biggest visual impact, and they sit against each other, one on top of the other. Its best to choose them as a unit. Either pick your counter top to go with your cabinet choice, or pick your cabinet to go with your counter top choice. This a good place to begin your material selections for your project. These two can be the inspiration for all your other choices.

A lot of clients go into their Bathroom remodel thinking that because it’s a small space, this means that it will be a small budget. Not true! It’s a small space with a lot of moving parts and pieces behind the walls. So, if you are thinking that since you have never remodeled before and you’ll just get your feet wet with the bathroom, think twice. Bathrooms can often times be more complicated than a kitchen. There are a lot more choices to make.

Welcome to my first Blog Post: Remodel consultation services My name is Chris Maxwell. Some of you know me as the person that assisted you with your kitchen or bath remodel and as a former designer at Southwest Kitchen & Bath. While I enjoyed my work of almost 10 years at SWKB, and I gained lots of experience there regarding kitchen and bath remodeling, I felt there was a niche that needed to be filled. I am a designer first and a sales person second. This works well when you are passionate about helping people and sharing what you know. I feel that the knowledge I have gained in the Remodel industry is priceless . So I have found a way to share it and also earn a living doing what I love.

Bathroom Remodel Consutation

In just one hour, Chris Maxwell explained how to achieve updated style and function in my very outdated master bath and how to make choices that remain within my budget. She answered my questions, saving me time and helping me prevent costly mistakes! Her consultation included several lay-out options, measuring each component of the room, sketches for cabinetry, advice on lighting and mirrors, explaining shower choices and a list of referrals. And, she’s available for additional consultation as my renovation progresses. Many thanks, Chris!
